The Root of All Evil—Real Talk with Dr. Ross

I was talking to my friend today, and she told me, “It is only on the highest floor of the hotel that you can truly see what you are looking at.” I talk about perspective a lot, and I’ll be honest—I don’t always get it right or have it right. Knowledge and truth are a journey because what you can see on the ground floor looks much different the further you venture into the sky. We all should seek that sight of what is above without actually taking our own feet off the ground. Our aspirations to see what is above are not based on positions of status or notoriety but are rooted in the desire to gain wisdom through the experiences in our lives—experiences that are the continuous building blocks to the creation of our character.

Above all else, we should not only desire but seek wisdom because wisdom is a legacy we pass down. It can never be bought or sold—it must be earned through moving from the space that we are in, desiring another glance to truly see what we had missed, and regaining that sense and taste of true reality that can never be taken from us.

Not many people know my story or how Faith Works specifically came into view for me. Faith Works did not come to be due to seeking status, money, or power—that has never been who I am for anyone who truly knows me. The Faith Works brand was created by the God I serve and my faith walk with Him, growing up as a shy kid and then growing in the Lord, truly seeing that nothing is impossible as long as I keep my eyes fixed on Him. Faith Works is not just a vision or mission. As my f same friend, Dee, told me, what we do is a lifestyle.

Faith Works is solidified in the truth that faith— works. When you have nothing of any material value, what is left in the ashes of what you lost is—your—faith—period. Rooting ourselves in anything less than faith is a disrespect to ourselves, our purpose, and the light that we have to give. Anything else we may have or desire is simply smoke and mirrors, enticing us to lose our integrity, our heart, our contentment, and our spirit.

I want you to level up in your life—I truly do. But until you venture into the sky, get lost in the clouds of your own hopes and dreams, and find that calling your spirit yearns for, you will never truly see the sky from even 100,000 feet above the ground. You will become lost in what you want and never find what you need.
