Finding Your Way: The Importance of Surrounding Yourself with Supportive People

Have you ever caught yourself going in the wrong direction? What were you doing when you got caught in this circumstance, and who was surrounding you at the moment you realized that you were lost?

I have been lost on several occasions, and it was always interesting when I realized that the place I was in was dictated by those who surrounded me. There are people we have been surrounded by who see light even in the times when we feel lost. They see the landmarks of where we are going, and though our hearts and minds feel troubled, they let us know that we are not alone and have never truly been lost. In that moment, we understand that we are only as great as those who surround us.

Take a moment to close your eyes and look around yourself. Who do you see that surrounds you? Some of us are currently looking at our surroundings and notice that those around us are broken and choose to stay as such. They are angry and allow their spirits of anger to choose their path. They are sad and will not allow their season to break through to springtime. They are blind and choose never to open their eyes to see the sunlight.

Do you now see why you are going in the wrong direction? You are going in the wrong direction not based on the circumstances of those around you but based on how those around you see and walk on the path they were given to walk. You sit there surrounded by the potential for movement, but you are stunted by a fractured path of people whom you love who never choose to make the breakthrough. So now, you are lost with them, and you are moving in the wrong direction.

I am not saying to let go of the friends you have because they may serve a purpose. What I am saying is that you cannot allow broken people and broken situations to surround you because that hurt, that sadness, those feelings of shame and doubt will start to guide your path. You will become discombobulated and begin a path of brokenness. Stop allowing individuals to surround you who do not know how to garner strength, love, and encouragement when the world says they are defeated! Keep your mind on the truth that the only way to get to the light is to walk through the darkness surrounded by those who know the way!

Therapy and counseling can play a significant role in helping you identify and address the impact of your surroundings on your mental health. A therapist can provide guidance and support, helping you navigate through difficult emotions and situations. Virtual therapists are also an excellent resource, offering convenience and accessibility for those who need support but may not have the means to attend in-person sessions.

Those who surround you may not have been through what you have been through, but they know what will come at the end of the road that you are walking. They know that what you will find will not come easily, will not come without cost, hurt, struggle, sweat, and tears, but when you arrive at your destination, through the heartache you have faced, you will be mended and whole.

Those who surround you should not and will not allow you to take shortcuts, but they will shine the lights that they found on their own paths to light your way through the struggles you face. They will use this light as a testament of encouragement of the road that you are on. Though your path is different, there is only one way through it, and there is glory at the other end that will direct your next path in ways that you could not even imagine. There is only one way to your blessings—be surrounded by those who will light your way through the darkness so that your light will shine all the brighter when you reach the end of this path to seek the next.

There is only one way to your path of greatness. The way is straight, and the road is narrow, and it is built for you and you alone. Be surrounded by light!

Be Blessed!
