Philosophy of Therapy

I believe that people can change their behaviors and outlook to affect positive changes in their lives and their relationships. As a marriage and family therapist, I believe in the systems perspective. A family and/or a relationship is a system unto itself, and individuals within it will benefit from belonging to that system in secure attachment while having the necessary freedom to pursue individual goals.

As a therapist, I look for the strengths of a family system while helping people overcome weaknesses that are threatening the family or relationship. My goal is to help relationships thrive and meet their goals rather than guide them to my own ideals. Cultural perspectives must be respected, and a therapist should help the family stay true to their ideals even when they are not mine.

Providing a non-judgmental platform that is inclusive of all lifestyles, warmed by empathy and a sincere desire to help, is the way to make clients feel valued, thereby giving confidence in themselves to achieve their goals.

Lastly, helping a family system thrive and move on from counseling to independently and successfully managing their lives is the best reward for me as a therapist.
